Varicose veins may seem like the end of the world. They’re painful, unsightly and an awkward conversation starter to say the least.

Most women who have them, accept it and make long pants, dresses and skirts a permanent staple in their wardrobe. And that’s usually OK during the winter and especially if you live in a cold climate all year round. But what about summer? And what if you live in the tropics?

    The answer? Makeup.

Makeup can transform people into zombies, vampires or movie stars. It can also cover varicose veins. It’s not a permanent solution, but it’s a pretty good temporary one. Find an extra 30 minutes in your morning routine and be prepared to practice. Buy the most heavy-duty waterproof foundation you can afford and follow the steps below. Eventually, the regime will get easier and take less time. But for right now—jump for joy because hallelujah, you can wear shorts again!

    First—Apply the basecoat

Start at your thigh and work your way down to your feet, making sure to blend in the foundation the whole way down with a makeup sponge or foundation brush. When you’re finished, depending on your complexion, you may want to use a bronzer, too, so your legs don’t look pasty.

Second—Concealer. Think of it like a tiny paintbrush

Using a thin, flat concealer brush, trace the veins you can reach and do your best to reach the ones you can’t. Make sure the concealer is waterproof, though, so your makeup artistry doesn’t come undone later on in the day.

    Third—use a finishing powder

Finishing powders help your makeup look smooth and natural. Greasy makeup is never good, especially on your legs. Your makeup could slide around and your beautiful handiwork will get ruined. Finishing powders are the way to go.
