varicose veinsYoga is a low-impact exercise that has been practiced for centuries. The long stretching asanas, or poses, the meditative aspects, and the mindfulness of being in the moment are all beneficial. There are, however, some poses that can help certain ailments such as varicose veins. Here are a few of them:

The Legs on Wall Pose: find a wall that has some available space in front of it for you to lie down. Lie down on your back and extend your legs up the wall. You will be at a 90-degree angle.

The Shoulder Stand Pose: this is more of an advanced pose, but if you can perform this pose, it will help your feet and legs tremendously. Lie on your back and then prop your legs up into the air by supporting your lower back with your hands. To execute this pose, it can take some practice.

The Leg Lock Pose: lie on your back and pull one knee up to your chest. Touch your forehead to your knee and breathe slowly. Your other leg will be extended on the floor. Switch legs and repeat. Do this 10 times. The leg lock pose is great for circulation.

By incorporating yoga into your exercise routine, you might find that the heaviness and achiness of your legs reduces. These poses work with gravity to help your veins return blood back to the heart, thus increasing circulation. Varicose veins can be painful and uncomfortable in your daily life. By integrating variety into your exercise regime, you will find that not only will your legs feel better, but the rest of your body will benefit from yoga.
